Eury, Liceo Ernestina Tejeda

Eury is a student at the Liceo Ernestina Tejeda, and is a native of Quieta on the outskirts of Villa Fundación.

He is one of six youth members of the VillaTEC Telecenter Science and Technology Club and has taken courses on maintenance and computer repair taught by Mr. Jeremías Marble, a Peace Corps volunteer.  He happily said about the program, “I used a computer for the first time as a secondary school student at the Liceo Ernestina Tejeda.  After three years, a friend suggested I take courses on computer repair offered by VillaTEC Telecenter so later I could help on the maintenance.  Through the course I learned to install all the programs that are used in the lab.”

As part of the collaborative work that Eury does at VillaTEC Telecenter, he teaches kids 12 and older how to use the programs in Microsoft Office.  For this he receives RD$1000 or UDS$32 a month. With the knowledge he has gained he has been able to help out in his community, Ouija Quieta repairing computers.  When asked about his work, he says, “I work in my computers with people usually for free, but sometimes they give me a small amount.”
