Access this website for information on family planning, HIV/AIDS, and other sexually transmitted diseases, women's health, and extensive periodicals and working papers.

Advocates for Youth

This is an American non-governmental organization (NGO) which promotes life-skills education for youth. Much of the information on their website is USA-focused, but it also includes a lot of information on Abstinence Until Marriage Education, and has a section for teens by teens.

  • also good are the Lesson Plans - ideas for Anti-AIDS Clubs or Peer Educators
  • in the "Facts & Figures" section, the Fact Sheets are good, as are the Programs at a Glance

This is a British AIDS Education and Research group, with a wealth of Basic HIV/AIDS Information and Information for Young People.

  • The AIDS & HIV Statistics will be helpful in responding to our first HIV/AIDS activity - it has worldwide statistics, including America, the UK, Africa, Canada, and Australia
  • The Information for Young People button has good basic information under the AIDS button, including information on safe sex
  • The History of HIV/AIDS link has good information on the Origin of HIV

CDC

America's Centers for Disease Control is a government body. As such, it has a lot of US information, but also has good Basic Statistics.

  • The Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page is good for basic HIV/AIDS information, especially for explanations of common hoaxes and rumors.
  • The FAQ page also has a section on HIV transmission and prevention, on kissing, on condoms, on mosquitos, on casual contact, and on sports
  • This website also has good information on Living With HIV/AIDS.

US Census Bureau

This is also an American government body. The Census Bureau's International Programs Center has good information on HIV/AIDS Surveillance. This link provides Country Profiles of the HIV/AIDS pandemic. You'll need Adobe Acrobat to view the country profiles, though, so let World Links know if you cannot view them.

This is a website designed by a network in Madison, Wisconsin, USA. Scroll down to the AIDS Network Home Page, then to Links, then to HIV Intervention for Teens - the HIV/AIDS Classroom has good basic information.

SIECUS

This is the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States, a non-profit organization. The "For Teens" and "For Religious Institutions" buttons have great information. The World Links HIV/AIDS Coordinator especially likes "The Really Good News" under the religion button, as it discusses how the Bible views sexuality, and links to life-skills education designed by various religious denominations.

This website is especially good for the Global HIV/AIDS and STD Surveillance, which has Epidemiological Fact Sheets by Country. Again, you'll need Adobe Acrobat Reader, so let World Links know if you need help accessing these.

Focus on Young Adults

This is a project funded by the United States Agency for International Development. It looked at young adult reproductive health around the world, and discusses different types of programs and whether they work.

MetroTeenAIDS

MetroTeenAIDS is an Alliance for Global Learning partner in the AIDSWEB project. They are a non-governmental organization working in the Washington, D.C., USA, area, that focuses all of its efforts on youth. Their website has information on their programs, and basic, straightforward HIV facts.
