Peer Education

WASSAs a result of participating in the World Links HIV/AIDS Collaborative Project, West Africa Secondary School (WASS) in Ghana began a Peer Education program. WASS and a local non-governmental organization, AIDS Action Ghana, have held two Peer Educator trainings, one in 2000 and one in 2001. Below is information on their program, plus interviews with two of the trained Peer Educators.

West Africa Secondary School

WASSThe West Africa Secondary School (WASS) HIV/AIDS Project participating teacher, Mr. Chris Kwei, attended the International AIDS Conference in July, 2000. After returning to his school, he decided to become more of an AIDS activist. He contacted AIDS Action Ghana, a local HIV/AIDS organization, and together they put together a Youth Peer Education Programme.

WASSThe Peer Education Programme trained about ten youth in 2000, and about twenty-five (half boys and half girls) in 2001. The age range of participants is 15 - 24. The 2001 week-long training was funded by the German Development Agency.
